Tests and Pricing

Payment is expected at the time of sample(s) submission. Clients may pay by check or card. Card purchases may be processed online or in-person, beginning May 2026. Purchase orders are accepted for commercial and professional growers, such as landscape companies, crop and environmental consultants, city offices, schools, and universities.

The UConn Plant Diagnostic Lab offers a few simple ways to pay for sample submission. Choose the option that works best for you. If you are submitting multiple samples, please use one payment method per submission whenever possible.

Checks and money orders are accepted and should be made payable to:

University of Connecticut (UConn)

Include with your sample:

  • A check or money order inside the package (do not mail cash)
  • Your completed submission form

Tip: Write your name in the memo line to help us match the payment to your sample.

You can also pay online by credit or debit card using s.uconn.edu/pay

Include with your sample:

  • Your completed submission form
  • Your payment confirmation/receipt number (printed or written on the form)

If you are dropping off your sample in person, you will be able to pay with a card or check.  However, we do not accept cash in the lab.

What we do not accept

  • Cash through the mail or onsite.
  • Split payments for a single submission (unless arranged in advance)

Matching your payment to your sample

To avoid delays, always make sure:

  • Sample bags are clearly labeled
  • Sample IDs match the submission form
  • Your payment includes identifying information (receipt number or memo note)

Connecticut Growers

Connecticut commercial growers (folks that grow or manage plants for their livelihood) will have their submission fee of $20 waived through 2027, thanks to funding supplied by USDA NIFA Grant No. 2022-37621-38276

Research Samples

Research orders are processed as time permits. Orders with a large number of samples should, if possible, be submitted during our slow period (November through February). Please contact the lab before submitting research samples for analysis. Other tests may be available upon consultation and prior arrangement with the soil testing lab.

Notes

  • The UConn Plant Diagnostic Lab does not test for herbicides, pesticides, or contaminants.
  • Discounts are available when 10 or more samples are submitted for Standard Nutrient Analysis between June 1st and March 15th.
  • UConn SNAL does not test for herbicides, pesticides, or contaminants other than heavy metals listed above.
  • Out-of-state plants and soils from quarantine areas may require special handling and may incur an additional disposal fee (we will contact you if your sample falls into this category).

Out of State Soils

Counties in several states have Fire Ant, Golden Nematode or other invasive pest QUARANTINES! If you live in these areas and send soil to us, it needs to be documented and destroyed upon processing. There is an additional disposal fee of $20 per sample. The USDA APHIS website has information regarding which US counties are quarantined.
