ELISA Analysis (Anticipated May 2026) An ELISA test is a highly accurate lab test that helps detect certain plant diseases caused by viruses or bacteria. It works by using special antibodies and enzymes that react when a disease is present. These tests are most cost effective for commercial growers or researchers doing batch testing.

To run the test, plant tissue is carefully prepared, processed, and examined using specialized lab materials. ELISA tests are more sensitive than lateral flow tests, which means they can detect even very small amounts of a pathogen. Because of this higher accuracy, ELISA testing takes more preparation time to ensure dependable results.
Standard Diagnostic Fee ($20.00) + $X.XX
Garden Insect Identification We analyze plant pests ONLY. Visual, physical, and microscopic examinations of submitted insects are conducted using a dissecting microscope for identification. $20.00
Hot Water Seed Treatment Hot water seed treatment uses water heated to specific temperatures to eradicate certain pathogens that infest seeds. This enables you to start with clean seed, and strong cultural management practices (i.e. crop rotation, field sanitation, scouting, etc.) will still be important to implement on plants that grew from hot water treated seed. It is important to note that while hot water seed treatment can eliminate pathogens on and in seeds, it neither protects nor guarantees that plants will remain disease free throughout the growing season.  0.01-1 oz of seed per cultivar submitted: $6

0.01-13 oz of seed for shipping & handling to return treated seeds to client: $6

For example: you submit 0.6 oz of cherry tomato seed ($6), 2.3 oz of kale seed ($18), and 1.1 oz of beefsteak tomato seed ($12). Your total seed treatment cost is $36, with a shipping cost of $6 (4 oz of seed ). Total cost is $42.
Lateral flow assay Plant material is mixed into a buffer solution and tested with diagnostic strips that quickly detect specific viral or bacterial pathogens.  Identify available tests

Included in Standard Diagnostic Fee ($20.00)
Microscopic analysis Detailed examination of plant tissue and pathogenic growth using compound and dissecting microscopes.  Included in Standard Diagnostic Fee ($20.00)
Molecular Testing (Anticipated May 2026) PCR analysis confirms the presence of certain pathogens using genetic information by amplifying target strands of DNA. Genetic material is extracted from plant tissue, mixed with a buffer solution, and processed in a thermocycler before gel electrophoresis is used to determine the presence of a plant pathogen. Please contact us for available tests and pricing.  Standard Diagnostic Fee ($20.00) + $X.XX
Nematode Extraction and Quantification (Anticipated May 2026) Nematodes can be extracted from plant material (roots) or small samples of soil. Soil is fed through a series of sieves to isolate nematodes which are analyzed and quantified using a microscope.  Standard Diagnostic Fee ($20.00) + $X.XX
Sample culturing Plant material is plated on specialized media to encourage the growth of fungi, bacteria, and other disease‑causing organisms. The speed at which pathogens develop can vary based on the organisms and the environment they are incubating in.   Included in Standard Diagnostic Fee ($20.00)
Tissue examination Visual and physical examination of plant material, including tissue dissection. Included in Standard Diagnostic Fee ($20.00)
